Zendaya is currently filming a new project with Robert Pattinson in Boston—a highly secretive A24 film titled The Drama. Initially, I thought the pairing of these two stars alone would be enough to make me rush to the nearest theater when it’s released. But when on-set videos surfaced on November 6, I realized there’s another scene-stealer in Zendaya’s new movie: an effortlessly slouchy, oversized gray winter coat.
No disrespect to Pattinson, who, once upon a time, adorned my bedroom wall in the form of a Twilight poster and still holds a permanent spot in my “ideal celebrity boyfriend” category. (Suki Waterhouse, you’re living the dream.) But Zendaya’s coat, spotted during a scene filmed with Pattinson on Boston’s historic Beacon Street, is something I’ve wanted in my wardrobe even longer than a brooding British actor.
In the fan-captured, grainy clips of Zendaya and Pattinson walking in front of the cameras, she’s seen wearing a long, heather-gray coat with sleeves that fall to her knuckles. The rest of her look includes a simple black leather tote and a low, curly bun. And that was all it took—I was sold.
This coat spoke to me even more than the Reformation sweater she wore with Tom Holland earlier this week. I still know nothing about the plot of Zendaya’s new movie or the significance of this gray coat in her character’s wardrobe, but that nine-second clip told me everything I needed about its appeal. It’s oversized without overwhelming her frame, and light enough to layer over a cozy sweater. While the brand and costume designer remain a mystery, it’s already a standout star in my eyes.
Zendaya and Pattinson are expected to keep filming in Boston over the coming weeks. Here’s hoping we get another glimpse of that incredible coat.
