The “Beyoncé Bowl” may have been one of the most fashionable events of the year.
After months of promoting Cowboy Carter with her signature Levi’s jeans, cowboy boots, and large hats, Beyoncé finally took the stage at the Houston Texans vs. Baltimore Ravens game for an unforgettable NFL Christmas halftime show. Her performance was the pinnacle of her style evolution, with an avant-cowgirl outfit that captured the essence of the theme perfectly.
For her first live performance of songs from her genre-defying album, Beyoncé’s stylist Shiona Turini dressed her in pieces that screamed “Yeehaw!” across the country.
Beyoncé made her grand entrance at NRG Stadium riding a white horse while singing “16 Carriages” and “Blackbird.” She matched her steed’s snowy mane with a stunning feathered white coat and hat. Across the coat, a red, white, and blue “Cowboy Carter” sash adorned with glittering letters added a bold statement, complementing the diamonds that sparkled around her neck.
Once on the field, Beyoncé removed her feathered coat to reveal a white, rhinestone-studded bodysuit with long sleeves, paired with matching fringed chaps. The rhinestones followed a western-inspired pattern along the sides and front, highlighted by a dazzling Cowboy Carter rhinestone belt.
Her dancers, band, and surprise guests were all dressed in matching snow-white outfits adorned with crystals. Blue Ivy, Beyoncé’s daughter, danced in white flare pants and a tank top, while Post Malone joined her for “Levii’s Jeans,” sporting a white blazer and denim. Tiera Kennedy, Tanner Adell, Brittney Spencer, and Reyna Roberts also harmonized with Beyoncé at the start of the performance, each in coordinating white hats and corsets.
Leading up to the performance, Beyoncé teased her Americana-inspired style in several Netflix ads. In a Christmas Eve spot, she played the banjo while wearing a glittering silver bustier and a red, white, and blue floral cape. Other teaser videos featured her in an ice princess-meets-horse girl look, complete with a white coat and matching snow-white hat by Atelier Biser.
Since the release of Cowboy Carter—the second act of her Renaissance musical chapter—last March, Beyoncé has embraced high-fashion cowgirl elements. With the exception of a molten gold Balmain gown she wore to the Mufasa premiere, Beyoncé has used surprise appearances and Instagram outfits to showcase her growing collection of ten-gallon hats, studded leather, and western-inspired designs. One memorable look from the iHeartRadio Music Awards featured a vintage Versace ensemble with major Coyote Ugly energy. Her yeehaw aesthetic has been brought to life with the help of designers such as Sergio Hudson, Ferragamo, and vintage Roberto Cavalli.
With the Christmas Day performance now behind her, Beyoncé is turning her attention to her next major event: the Grammy Awards on February 2, where she received 11 nominations.
